§ 2-437. Investigative fee for background checks for handgun applicants; authorized; collection.

  • (a)

    A nonrefundable investigative fee is hereby authorized to be charged for each application received by the chief of police for background checks conducted under the federal Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act.

    (b)

    The amount of this nonrefundable investigative fee shall be an amount established by the city and listed in appendix A of this Code. This amount is found to not exceed the actual expenses incurred by the city in relation to the conduct of these investigations.

    (c)

    The chief of police shall collect this fee and issue a receipt upon payment. This investigative fee shall be paid by the licensed firearm dealer who presents the application to the chief of police. The chief of police shall not accept an application presented until the investigative fee is paid.
